Meadow Stripes Blanket

Hello 👋 Gemma here, this blanket is a mix of my favourite things; aran weight yarn, purple and green shades and a simple (aka mindful and repetitive) stitch pattern. I am happy with the colour ways and pretty proud with the way this one has turned out.

While it is a baby blanket, like most of my patterns I also show how you can increase the foundation row to create a larger blanket. This one would make a snuggly large sofa blanket. I think a version in autumnal colours would be just gorgeous. I might pop up some alternative colour-ways using the same yarn but in different colours.

Like always I hope you enjoy making this pattern and please tag me @happygohooky if you make one, so I can see. 💚

Happy crocheting!

Materials

Hook: 6mm (US J/10)
Yarn: 7 balls of Scheepjes Chunky Monkey Yarn. 2 balls of White and 1 ball of each of the following five colours Amethyst / Iris / Camel / Sage / Moss Green
Alternative yarn: You’ll need 610 yards or 480g of aran yarn

Notes

This pattern is written in UK terms. The finished size shown in the photographs is 28 inches x 34 inches. Remember the ch3 at the beginning of a row, counts as the first tr stitch. The stitch count for every row should be 81.

Stitches used in this pattern

Treble Crochet (tr): Yarn over and insert hook into stitch, yarn over and pull through loop, yarn over and pull through two loops, yarn over and pull through the remaining two loops.

Puff Stitch (puff): *Yarn over, insert hook, yarn over and pull up a loop*, repeat * * two more times, then yarn over and pull through all seven loops on hook.

The Pattern (UK Terms)

Foundation: With Amethyst, ch83 (or chain any multiple of 12 + 11).

Row 1: tr in the fourth chain from the hook, tr into each chain til the end and turn.

Row 2: ch3 and tr in the next two stitches *ch1, skip next stitch, then work a puff into the next stitch, ch1, skip next stitch, then tr in the next nine stitches*. Repeat *to* five more times, skip next stitch, then work a puff into the next stitch, ch1, skip next stitch, then tr in the last three stitches, turn.

Row 3: ch3 and tr in the next nine stitches, *ch1, skip next stitch, then work a puff into the next stitch, ch1, skip next stitch, then tr in the next nine stitches*. Repeat *to* 6 more times until you reach the last stitch, fasten off, attach White and turn.

It is useful to note that the section here *ch1, skip next stitch, then work a puff into the next stitch, ch1, skip next stitch, then tr in the next nine stitches* is the main repeating section throughout the whole blanket. Remembering there is a space before and after a puff stitch, and always nine trebles in between them, will help you make the blanket quicker.

Rows 4 to 59: Alternate between rows 2 and row 3 for the rest of the blanket. For even row numbers (4,6,8,10) follow Row 2 and for odd row numbers (5,7,9,11) follow Row 3. There is a colour chart below to help you know when you need to change colours.

Super Sweary Crochet Colouring Book

A humourous journey into the mind of a frustrated crocheter.

When all the rows are completed, sew in the ends, and block your blanket to help even out the sides and give the blanket a neater finish.
