Witches Hat Crochet Appliqué

Materials
Hook: 4.5mm / 7
Yarn: I used Scheepjes Softfun in Heath and Pumpkin, which is a cotton/acrylic blend but any DK yarn can be used.
Stitches used in this pattern (UK Terms)
Double Crochet (dc): Insert hook into stitch, yarn over and pull through loop, yarn over and pull through both loops on hook.
Half Treble Crochet (htr): Yarn over, insert hook into stitch, yarn over and pull through loop, yarn over and pull through all 3 loops on hook.
Double crochet 2 together (dc2tog)
Pattern (UK Terms)
To begin with we will make the witches hat section of the pattern using your chosen yarn in purple.
Foundation: ch12
Round 1: dc in 2nd ch from hook, dc in the next 10 stitches, then 5dc in the last stitch. You are now working back on yourself. Dc in the next 10 stitches. 3dc in the last stitch and sl st to join.
Round 2: ch1 and dc in same stitch, dc in next 10 stitches, 2dc in next 3 stitches, dc in next 11 stitches, 2dc in next 3 stitches, dc, sl st to top of first dc.
We are now moving onto the pointy part of the hat and will work in rows.
Row 1: ch1, dc in same stitch, dc in next 10 stitches and turn.
Row 2: ch1, dc2tog, dc in next 7 stitches, dc2tog and turn.
Row 3: ch1, dc in the next 9 stitches and turn.
Row 4: ch1, dc2tog, dc in next 5 stitches, dc2tog and turn.
Row 5: ch1, dc 7 times and turn.
Row 6: ch1, dc2tog, dc in next 3 stitches, dc2tog and turn.
Row 7: ch1, dc 5 times and turn.
Row 8: ch1, dc2tog, dc, dc2tog and turn.
Row 9: ch1, dc, dc2tog, turn, and ch1.
Row 10: dc2tog, fasten off. Sew in the ends.
This is the main hat section completed, we will now move onto the orange band that goes on top.
Foundation: ch11, in the second stitch from hook, htr, then htr in next 8 stitches. Fasten off and use ends to sew band in place on the hat.
