Ghost Crochet Appliqué

Summon some time to create this fun crochet pattern! This adorable ghost appliqué is part of a spook-tacular set of three, featuring a pumpkin and a witch’s hat. Materials

Hook: 4.5mm Hook for the body / 4mm Hook for the eyes
Yarn: I used Scheepjes Softfun in Cloud and Heath, which is a cotton/acrylic blend but any DK yarn can be used.

Stitches used in this pattern (UK Terms)

Double Crochet (dc): Insert hook into stitch, yarn over and pull through loop, yarn over and pull through both loops on hook.

Half Treble Crochet (htr): Yarn over, insert hook into stitch, yarn over and pull through loop, yarn over and pull through all 3 loops on hook.

Treble Crochet (tr): Yarn over and insert hook into stitch, yarn over and pull through loop, yarn over and pull through two loops, yarn over and pull through the remaining two loops.

Double treble (dtr): Yarn over twice round the hook and insert hook into stitch, yarn over and pull through loop, yarn over and pull through two loops, yarn over and pull through two loops, yarn over and pull through the remaining two loops.


Pattern

Note: Starting chain does not count as a stitch.

Foundation: working in light grey with a 4.5mm hook and ch7.

Round 1 – htr in the second stitch from the hook, then htr in the next 5 stitches. Work 4tr in the same last stitch (making it 5htr in total, this is the curved edge), then htr in the next 5 stitches. [15]

Round 2 – Turn work and ch1, work a htr in the next 5 stitches, then 2htr in following 5 stitches, then htr in the next 5 stitches. [20]

Round 3 – Turn work and ch1, work a  htr in the next 5 stitches, then (htr, 2htr) 5 times, then htr in the next 5 stitches. [25]

Round 4 – Turn work and ch1, work a htr in the next 5 stitches, then (htr, htr, 2htr) 5 times, then htr in the next 5 stitches. [30]

Round 5 – Turn work and ch1, htr in the next 5 stitches, then (htr, htr, htr, 2htr) 5 times, then htr in the next 5 stitches. DO NOT fasten off.

THE TAILS

Round 6 – Continuing on from the body… *work 2tr, 2dtr and 2tr all in the same stitch (marked by the first x in Image 2), then ss into the stitch marked with the first y*.

Repeat ** twice using image 2 as guidance, to create 3 half circle tails. Fasten off.

EYES

Using a 4mm hook, *Ch3, slipstitch into the third chain from the hook, to create a ring. Ch1 and 8dc into the centre of the ring, ss to first dc. Fasten off. Use ends to sew eye into place on the body.*

Repeat ** for the second eye.
