Snug-as-a-bug Cowl
The cowl has been designed to be a snug fit. It always annoys me when I haven’t wrapped my scarf correctly, and you can still feel the chills. A cowl can’t be adjusted like a scarf, so I thought if I take one, I want it to fit as a snug jumper would. The gorgeous fluffy yarn gives this cowl that extra luxurious feel.
Materials
6mm hook
Yarn needle
Scissors
Stitches
This pattern is written using UK crochet terminology.
ch - chain
slst - slip stitch
htr - half treble
fptr - front post treble
bptr - back post treble
dc - double crochet
Front post treble (fptr) explained
1. Wrap yarn over the hook
2. Insert the hook into the next htr stitch below, so the post of the stitch shows in front of the hook (see image below).
3. Yarn over the hook and pull it through. You should now have three loops on the hook.
4. Yarn over the hook and pull through 2 stitches, then wrap the yarn around the hook again and pull through the remaining 2 loops.
Back post treble (fptr) explained
With the back post treble you insert you hook from behind and loop around the post in the opposite direction from the front post treble.

1. Wrap the yarn over the hook.
2. Insert the hook into the next htr stitch below, so the post of the stitch shows behind the hook.
3. Yarn over the hook and pull it through. You should now have three loops on the hook.
4. Yarn over the hook and pull through 2 stitches, then wrap the yarn around the hook again and pull through the remaining 2 loops.
Pattern
We start by making the first ribbed cuff.
Foundation row: ch59 then slst to the first stitch. Be careful to make sure you don’t twist the chain when you join.
Connecting foundation chain
Round 1: ch2 and htr in the same stitch. Then htr in next 58 stitches and slst to top of the 2 chains.

Round 2 and 3: ch3 (this counts as a stitch) then work *fptr, bptr* 29 times and finish with a fptr then slst into the top of the 3 chains.
The body
We will now work on the body of the cowl.
Round 4: ch1, dc into same stitch, then dc into the next 54 stitches and slst into the chain 1.
Rounds 5-24: repeat row 4.
You should now have one ribbed cuff and the main body of the cowl. We just need to repeat the ribbed cuff and our cowl will be complete.
Round 26: ch2 and htr in the same stitch. Then htr in next 56 stitches and slst to top of the 2 chains.
Rounds 27 and 28: ch3 (this counts as a stitch) then work *fptr, bptr* 28 times and finish with a fptr then slst into the top of the 3 chains.
Fasten off and sew in any ends.
