MAKING THE SCRUBBIE BASE

Foundation: Start with a magic ring (or alternatively chain 3 and slst to the first chain)

Round 1: ch2, then work 12tr in the ring, slst to the first tr, pull on the yarn tail to close the ring [12]

Round 2: ch2, then 2tr into the same stitch, work 2tr in each stitch all the way round, finish with a slst [24]

Round 3: ch2, then 2tr into the same stitch, tr, repeat [ 2tr, tr] in every 2 stitches all the way round until you reach the end, finish with a slst [36]

Round 4: ch2, then 2tr into the same stitch, tr, tr, repeat [ 2tr, tr, tr ] in every 3 stitches all the way round until you reach the end, finish with a slst [48]

Repeat the steps above to make 2 scrubbie bases as we will be sewing them together later.

DECORATING YOUR SCRUBBIE

To decorate the scrubbie, it is up to you what you want; you can add a cute message or use the simple heart motif I have gone with.

To add the design, I used surface crochet using a template to help me create the shape I wanted.

You can find a downloadable PDF of the heart I used for my scrubbie and various heart shapes in case your scrubbie is a different size to mine.

Step 1: Print off the template and cut out a heart shape that fits your scrubbie. Remember, you need enough space around the edge to surface crochet.

Step 2: Cut a short piece of yarn and use a yarn needle to stitch the heart template in place. It doesn’t have to be perfect, just as long as it stays in place.

Step 3: Take 2 strands of red cotton yarn and your 3.5mm hook, make a slip knot. Insert your hook from the front to the back of the scrubbie and pull the slip know through. See the image below.

Step 4: Using the template, work around the edge, insert your hook, pull up a loop, and through the loop on your hook. Repeat this process all the way around the heart. Once you reach the side where you start, pull the yarn through and sew in the ends.

Step 5: Cut off the template to reveal your heart motif.

I have to be honest - I did not create a perfect heart the first time, and it took me a few tries, frogging after each one, to get the shape and technique right. If you find you are struggling a little, keep trying again. Each time you learn where you have gone wrong, you will get there!

FINISHING TOUCHES

Gather the two scrubbies you have made and sew them together, making sure you have the heart motif showing on the outside.

And they you have it, your finished love heart face scrubbie. You can add extra text inside if you wish, why not have a play. I created some freehand XO versions.
