Half treble crochet (htr)
The UK double crochet stitch (known as the US single crochet stitch) is one of the simplest and most important stitches in crochet. Itβs a small, neat stitch that is easy to learn and very strong, making it great for projects like amigurumi, dishcloths, and bags.
π Pin it and save for later
π Crochet stitches and patterns on my site are written using UK terminology. I have included the US terminology as much as possible. Please see the UK/US Terminology to learn more about the differences between the two.
Written instructions
Double crochet - Insert your hook, yarn over and pull up a loop, yarn over and pull through both loops on hook.
Making a swatch
For the double crochet sample you can see in the photos, I have worked 20 stitches by 24 rows. As I wanted to have a row of 20 stitches, I started with a chain of 21 which includes the ch1 turning chain, however you can make a swatch at any size.
Foundation chain: Any number.
Row 1: dc in the 2nd ch from the hook and in each ch across to the end of the row. Ch1 and turn. [20 sts]
Row 2: dc in the first stitch and across to the end of the row. Ch1 and turn. [20 sts]
Row 3-20: Repeat row 2.
Fasten off and sew in ends.
